About Bart

While studying for his medical degree, Bart Biermans noticed that nearly all diseases are treated on an acute, medicine-first basis. Acute healthcare based on medicine has brought us many great things: our life expectancy has rocketed skyward over the centuries and many previously life-threatening infections can now be easily treated.

However, this classical Western approach to healthcare also lead to overmedicalization of patients. In order to treat chronic diseases such as asthma, rheumatism and Crohn’s disease, patients are forced to take pills for the rest of their lives.

It is time that we redress the balance, time to start properly researching alternative, often ancient, treatments, giving them a place inside our healthcare system. Many alternative treatments have been labeled inferior, dismissed with arrogance, based on preconceived ideas from positions of power. This is unjustified, because many of these treatments can have a beneficial effect on chronic illnesses.

“It is my mission to raise public awareness about the power you possess to optimize your own health. There are many alternatives to the modern healthcare system.”

1997-2005 - Studied Medicine and Pharmacy

In 1997, Bart Biermans started his Pharmacy studies at the University of Utrecht. After two years, he continued his studies at the University College Utrecht. This was the first Honor College in the Netherlands modeled after Cambridge and Oxford, using their Bachelor/Master system. Bart obtained his Bachelor Science degree here in 2000 and went on to study for his Master’s degree in Medicine at the University of Utrecht. Bart received his Master’s degree in 2005 and founded The Body Clinic the very same year.

2006-2020 - Founded The Body Clinic

After finishing his medical studies, Bart Biermans knew one thing for sure: he didn’t want to work in a hospital. The pecking order and working atmosphere of a hospital just didn’t suit him: “I was still building up my ego back then. Plus, I wanted to be financially independent and have the freedom to move around. I fell into the cosmetic sciences by chance, really. It gave me the possibility to manage my own schedule and travel around. Over the past 14 years, I’ve built up a fine operation with a great team at two locations. We are the best-rated cosmetic clinic according to the Dutch Consumer Association and the best consumer review site. But it’s time for a new chapter in my life, one dedicated to the internal, not the external.”

Making people aware that they can optimize their own health

2014-2019 - Therapist’s Degree

In 2014, Bart Biermans started his five-year training as an Essential Therapist. Essential Therapy contains elements of Gestalt therapy and Voice Dialogue. The goal of Essential Therapy is to increase self-awareness, allowing you to examine deeply entrenched behaviors and let go of them. “It’s a journey to the inside, all about building up the confidence to rely on your intuition, connecting you with others and promoting a healthy self-image. It’s about accepting yourself in spite of your flaws.” Bart Biermans utilizes the knowledge and skills he has acquired as a therapist in his Below Zero Workshops.

2015 - The WHM Academy

Bart Biermans completed his training at the WHM Academy in 2015.

2015-2020 - Ice bath instructor

During 2015-2020, Bart organized many workshops, weekends and winter trips. From 2017 to 2019, Bart was a speaker at international workshops in Australia, America and Europe. During these workshops Bart was in charge of explaining the science. In the period 2019-2020 Bart trained ice bath instructors.

2020 - His own path: the Below Zero Method

In 2020, Bart Biermans developed the Below Zero Method. He based it on seven foundations: scientific theory, measurable results, nutrition, breathing techniques, meditation, yoga and cold exposure (the ice bath). The Below Zero Method aims to redress the hormonal imbalances that so many people suffer from. A proper functioning hormonal balance optimizes various physiological processes, such as your sleep cycle, appetite, stress level, energy level and immune system. With his medical background, Bart Biermans has always found it of the utmost importance to relay quantifiable results to his participants. You will feel the effects of this method during the workshop, as we map out your own physiology by taking your blood pressure, oxygen level, heart rate and pH-level.
